Abstract

Higher education institutions today are responsible for producing graduates who will become global citizens with a sense of belonging to the global community. Institutions that are unable to do so may make themselves irrelevant to their respective communities. Students of the 21st century continue to be taught using past century methods or conventional ways of teaching that may motivate but fail to excite or sustain their interest in learning or in their own education. This paper attempts to discuss the education scenario in higher education, the new learning landscape, and the need for educators to re-think and re-design learning with the aim of providing a studentcentered learning environment to engage students in order to foster learning that is relevant to current global needs.
